The Objective Assessment of Breast Density

Kathy Schilling MD – Boca Raton Regional Hospital – Updated on March 10, 2021

The objective assessment of breast density is harder than you may think. Taking the guesswork out of the process saves lives.

If you have high breast density, you’re at an even greater risk of having breast cancer than if you have a family history of breast cancer. Worse still, fibroglandular tissue (the main element of the breast) appears white on a mammogram, just like cancers. This makes cancer detection in women with high amounts of this tissue, known as high density. Volpara’s platform utilises quantitative analytics to eliminate errors made by humans, who can interpret the same image in different ways.
